Renishaw RAMAN spectrometer (S/N H07107, July 2001) with three integrated excitation sources: Spectra-Physics 163-C4210 air-cooled argon-ion laser (488/514 nm), Renishaw HeNe laser (633 nm, 50 mW Class IIIb), and Renishaw 780 nm diode laser sub-assembly, internal optomechanics, controllers, and cabling, originating from NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California.

We are not Raman spectroscopy experts. This listing reflects several days of research — nameplate inventory, parts lookups, calls to verify provenance, and cross-referencing manuals — and is accurate to the best of our ability. There may still be errors in technical specifics we couldn't independently verify. Please inspect the photos carefully; additional photos are available on our website. Questions before bidding are welcome.

Description:

The system is built around a Renishaw Model RAMAN main spectrometer (S/N H07107, July 2001, UK-made, 90–260 VAC / 80W). Three excitation sources are present and physically documented:

A Spectra-Physics 163-C4210 air-cooled argon-ion laser head (S/N L075102Q, July 1997, USA-made) for 488 / 514 nm excitation, with its matched Spectra-Physics 263-C04 power supply (S/N 245435, date code 1401, 100–240 VAC 20A input; both original keyswitch keys in place and a green TESTED tag attached) and the SP head-to-PSU umbilical (P/N SCS9950-38620 Rev B).

A Renishaw HeNe laser (S/N G95690, November 1999, UK-made) for 633 nm / 50 mW CW Class IIIb excitation, with all control functions integrated on the head's rear panel (interlock socket, keyswitch, power/laser LEDs, IEC inlet, T500mA fuse).

A Renishaw 780 nm / 50 mW CW Class IIIb diode laser sub-assembly mounted on its own optical breadboard, with the Renishaw H01467 diode driver / TEC controller (UK-made, INTERLOCK / TEMP / POWER monitoring + keyswitch), a Renishaw "Laser Power Indicator" digital readout unit stacked above it, and two kinematic mirror mounts for beam steering.

Also included: a Renishaw A-9803-0176 system interface / comms module (S/N H01169) with COMMS, POWER, and DIAGNOSTIC Lemo ports; the spectrometer's internal optomechanics including an OWIS GmbH motorized optical positioning component (P/N 43.065.2553.F1, S/N 0003 0026) with an EC Motion 2-phase stepper, two DIN 160/0.17 microscope objectives (4×/0.10 NA red ring and 40×/0.65 NA green ring), grating/filter selection wheel, multiple kinematic mounts, beam-conditioning optics, and pinhole alignment fixtures; a Leica 12V / 100W halogen illuminator (with a Class 3B laser-radiation caution sticker indicating it served as the brightfield illuminator on the Raman-integrated microscope at the source facility); and cable set (50-pin D-sub COMMS cable, 4-pin Lemo CCD COMMS cable, IEC C13 cords, and a modified NEMA 5-15P 120V/15A power cord with chassis-bonded spade-lug ground).

Sold untested, however it appears quite complete, the provenance with NASA ARC is strong signal for superb maintenance. It will need cleaning and certainly components like the interlock, some wiring, etc. The Leica microscope body, WiRE software, host PC, software and any parts not shown are not included.

*An Aerotech LSR5P 25 mW HeNe alignment laser tube (S/N 237-28448, June 1987) is also included in the auction lot but appears unrelated to the Renishaw system and is offered without warranty as a standalone item. It was received with this lot and we are keeping it with in case there is a use we were unable to understand.

HOW THIS ITEM WAS TESTED
This unit was decommissioned and acquired from NASA Ames Research Center believed exceptionally maintained and fully functional, however it is untested.
IMPORTANT POINTS
- Sold untested and as-is. No representation of functionality, calibration, or compatibility with current Renishaw software.
- No microscope body, no WiRE software or license, no host PC, no external interlock hardware.
- Spectra-Physics head-to-PSU umbilical: outer strain-relief sleeve at the PSU end shows wear and is partially separated; underlying conductors are intact.
- Power cord on one unit terminates in a modified NEMA 5-15P (120V / 15A) — standard hot/neutral blades with the ground pin replaced by a bonding spade lug. Buyer may wish to terminate the spade lug to chassis ground or replace with a standard 5-15P.
- The 4×/0.10 NA and 40×/0.65 NA objectives are unbranded DIN 160/0.17 biology objectives, not Renishaw-supplied Raman-grade optics.
- The Leica 12V/100W illuminator is included as evidence of Raman-microscope integration at the source facility; the Leica microscope body itself is not in this lot.
